We are currently gathering in a facebook group where we can chat about all thing Mormon and magickal and join together in ritual and prayer.
As our circle expands, we will likely find a different format that handles a large volume of people and is more user-friendly. If you have ideas for how to accomplish this, please join us and offer your suggestions.
Mormon Moon Circle will take place each new moon (on the eve nearest the zenith of the esbat*) starting at 7 pm PST (that is 6 pm AK, 8 MST, 9 CST and 10 EST).
*The complete new moon will be tonight at 12:19 am on the West coast of the US. Since technically after midnight is Saturday, the eve of the esbat is Friday (tonight).

Hi! I have a question, and I do not mean to come off as rude at all, because I love what you are doing. But... how is this ok with the LDS church? Do members of your ward look down on you for the whole Mormon-Pagan thing? I'm a little bit confused.
ReplyDeleteWell, I am sure that some members of our ward would be concerned over our unorthodoxy, but in most of our cases I imagine that our local ward members don't really know. Our personal testimonies and worship habits (at least the unorthodox sides of them) aren't necessarily things we bring up all the time in relief society, you know? We ARE open about them (as here), we're not trying to hide them. But they just don't come up a lot in everyday conversations.
ReplyDeleteSo, yes, I'm sure there are those who wouldn't be comfortable with it. (I actually had someone report me to my bishop, and he called me in to ask me about it all. I think he was pretty contented with my responses, when he realized that I wasn't in conflict with the gospel, and that I was just practicing my testimony in a way that worked for me.)
We worship how, where, and what we may. Our Mormon faith and the gospel are never contradicted by what we do. If/when someone is uncomfortable with it, we can respond in love. It's a purely cultural reaction. That said, I think most of us simply don't announce to the ward our particular brand of worship. It doesn't concern them, and none of it makes anyone temple unworthy.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's rude at all, thank you for asking. :) There's no prohibition about observing lunar or seasonal cycles or gathering to meditate and pray (imagine if there were! Goodness...) which is the vast majority of what's being done. It would certainly raise eyebrows and make some people squirm, but that's not such a big deal when it comes down to it. As for the institution of the Church, well... *shrug!* This group is not officially affliating with nor endorsed by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints etc etc "legalese" meaning they don't really have a say. :D
ReplyDeleteAnd I generally don't address my Pagan leanings in public. There probably would be those that would look down on it and as I'm personally content with my path, I'm not inclined to open it up for public scrutiny.
I hate to take this so completely off topic but I am still receiving email notifications every time someone comments and I'd rather not. I believe it was Decent who accidentally signed me up for them a while back and I can't change the settings myself. If an admin of the blog could take me off the comment notification list that'd be awesome! Thanks much!
